There has been a controversial topic as to if Unilorin will reduce her cut off mark for the 2019/2020 academic session. Or rather, if Unilorin will increase cut off mark for the 2019/2020 session.
Today, I have decided to straighten things out; literally, as it sounds the rate of failure in the just concluded unified tertiary matriculation examination is something one should worry about.
A report came in from the joint admission and matriculation board Current Registrar, Is-haq Oloyede.
According to reports, around 76.2% among the 1.7 million+ utme candidates who participated in the 2019 utme exam, scored below 50%
Jamb registrar Oloyede also revealed that only 361,718 candidates scored between 180 and 199.
However, it wasn’t this worse as it was in 2018.
On the other hand, 494,484 unfortunately scored between 160 and 179%
Without any reason to doubt, the rate of failure in the 2019/2020 is very high as opposed to previous years.
While we wait for Jamb to announce her 2019/2020 cut off mark, it has raised doubts in the mind of Unilorin aspirants.
Not just doubt, but fear has gripped the mind of many, and it raises the question: “will Unilorin reduce cut off mark for 2019?” or “will Unilorin increase cut off mark for 2019?”.
If you have had this question burning in your mind well I think its time we break the ice.
Will Unilorin Reduce cut off mark for 2019/2020.
As of now, Unilorin has not released her official cut off mark for the 2019/2020 admission processing. But in actuality, Unilorin will not reduce cut off mark for 2019.
It really is a weird answer, but I have not jumped to the conclusion yet. Please continue reading with your mind open.
It obviously makes things straight, linear and much more logical if we admit to the fact that the rate of competition in the University of Ilorin outweighs any other institution in Nigeria.
To think that Unilorin will reduce cut off mark to favor anyone is illogical because the competition is parallel to the qualification that each candidate has to present which suggests that the cut off mark should not be altered.
Perhaps, that alone is an imperative standing idea that debunks the subject of Unilorin having to reduce cut off mark for 2019.
To iron things out, the University of Ilorin does not place overall qualification on the unified tertiary matriculation examination (utme) board.
It only stands as a prerequisite for admission and not a total mode of qualification.
Will Unilorin Increase cut off mark for 2019.
No, Unilorin will not increase cut off mark for 2019. However, they may likely increase the cut off mark high for most competitive courses.
In a nutshell, it is really not a guarantee.
Chances are, the current Unilorin 2018/2019 cut off mark will remain unchanged.
What you must know
Now that you have a simple to answer to if Unilorin will reduce cut off mark for 2019 or if Unilorin will increase cut off mark for 2019; I do like to also nail a point on the table.
See, if Unilorin ever decides to reduce cut off mark or alter the cut off mark at all, it would be only 15% to 20% of the entire courses offered.
And only a slight difference will occur.
So, you can still keep your mind on the current University of Ilorin Cut off mark. No alteration will reduce it more than its current state which is fair enough.
The only Occasions that may call for Reducing of the cut off mark.
The only substantial reason that may prompt the board of the University of Ilorin to reduce cut off mark is supposedly the number of students who applied is low for the current session, of course, they will never be.
Assuming the number of candidates seeking admission is very high then there won’t be a substantial reason to reduce the cut off mark instead they would increase it.
